Terri Shiavo
Finally the autopsy on Terri Schiavo has been performed and the results were published today. They back up her husband's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state, finding that she had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind. Her brain weighed 615 grams, roughly half of the expected weight of a human brain. The damage was irreversible, and no amount of therapy or treatment would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons. The autopsy also found no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused.
Oddly, her parents, who had demonised Michael Shiavo for years on TV and in the press for wanting to euthanise her, weren't available for comment today. Strange, that. Guess they couldn't handle the obvious truth - the thing that everyone else saw years ago.
Such a shame her parents meddled and interfered so much that she wasn't allowed to die with any dignity. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Of course The White House says today's autopsy report doesn't change "President" B*sh's view on the case. He still thinks Americans should "stand on the side of defending life." If that was the case, she could have been kept in that zombie state until she died naturally. Which I'm sure would have been tortorous for her. It seems B*sh and a lot of other people aren't open to the debate on what constitutes quality of life. In B*sh's case though, that's no surprise given what he's done to the quality of life of the average Iraqi. Lets not forget that suicide bombings and terrorist attacks were almost unheard of in Iraq before 2002.
