One in the eye for the "miracle" crowd.

Well that's a slap in the face for the people who claim everything good is due to "miracles" these days. After proclaiming that the survival of 12 of the 13 miners trapped in the West Virgina mine explosion was a "miracle", all involved now rather have egg on their faces as it turns out that the number was wrong. It's actually 12 of the 13 miners were confirmed dead. Not so much of a miracle then.

I have a problem with these people who claim everything good is a miracle. A local couple lost their dog last week and it was found alive in a railway yard a few days later and returned to them. The first comment when interviewed? "It's a miracle he was found alive."
No. It was dumb luck that their little poodle didn't get run over by a train, and it was luck that someone stopped and picked him up. A miracle would have been if the dog had grown wings and a GPS receiver and flown home on its own, evolved vocal cords and told the couple of its four day tale of woe.
To rely on the notion of miracles is to disrespect people involved with whatever the activity was. In the case of the dog, by saying "it's a miracle", the couple basically acknowledged that they'd sooner thank a Deity they worship (but have no proof of) than they would thank the actual people who brought their dog back to them. That is insulting.
