Or Maybe that much snow wasn't so funny after all. The power has just come on tonight after 4 days without. Yes, 4 DAYS without power. Hundreds of bucks of food ruined, hundreds of bucks spent on wood, firestarters, heaters, batteries etc.
On the night of the 25th, it dumped. Really, really dumped. About 12 inches fell overnight and at 5:30am the power lines started to come down with the weight of snow and tree branches falling on them. We lost one limb off the maple tree in the back garden but fortunately it didn't break the power line.
Throughout the day, another 12 inches of snow fell. We were constantly snow-blowing and shovelling just to keep the driveway clear.
On the night of the 26th, it snowed another 12 inches (these are all the numbers in Sugarhouse - the benches and mountains got at least double these numbers).
On the 27th, we shovelled and blew snow all day again. Snow walls started to appear alongside the driveway because of the heaps of snow we were dumping there. I had to dig a trench to the front door. Mum and dad checked into a hotel because mum's pneumonia was getting worse again with the cold and damp in the house.
On the night of the 27th, the temperature plummetted to -10°C, freezing all the snow on the ground.
On the 28th, the sun came out briefly which gave the city services a chance to get the roads clear for the first time.
On the 29th, we were still without power (this morning). I blew a fuse at Utah Power - it's not rocket science to get power to a road which is a single house-width away from another powered street. The temperature inside the house bottomed-out at 6°C. Another night and we'd have had to turn off the water.
The end result : the biggest storm to hit utah in 32 years. We got nearly 40 inches of snow in the valley. The benches got close to 60 inches. The ski resorts got a whopping 87 inches, all in the space of about 30 hours.
Utah is out of drought because of this storm.
Utah power are going to be getting the sharp end of my pointed stick very shortly. 4 days my ass. With a 20ft ladder and a pair of pliers, I could have had power back to our street 3 frickin' days ago!
