Please explain Spotify to me.

Spotify is one of the interweb's big mysteries to me at the moment. Every time I ask someone to explain it to me, all I get is "dude it's freakin awesome!". Ok but why? What is it that makes it so awesome? It seems to me like the Papa Murphy's of the music world (the pizza company that don't deliver, and when you pick it up, it's not cooked)
Spotify seems to have a wide range of mainstream music that you can't own, and can't listen to unless you have an unlimited data connection (no cellphone company does those any more), are in range of wifi or have a hard-wired network. So you can't really listen to it on a motorbike. Or in a car. Or on a plane. Or in a train.
Which to me seems - well - pointless?
Plus, if you don't own the music you're paying for, then Spotify can pull an Amazon on you and just arbitrarily take away what you've paid for.
My mp3 player on the other hand - 32Gb of music there, in the palm of my hand. 12 solid days of music that travels with me wherever I go and doesn't need a license, or a data connection, or a network. I can listen to it anywhere.

So please - without telling me that it's cool, someone explain to me what the hell it is about Spotify that has everyone hooked. Are they giving away free drugs with every signup or something? And if it's so cool, why don't they let you search their song list without signing up? For that matter, why do you need an invite? Why can't just anyone sign up? What are they hiding? It's like some super secret masonic club that the have's are not allowed to explain to the have-not's.

Alright, we got a couple of things going on.

Spotify is a music streaming service (D'oh!) that has a freemium business model. When you sign up, you'll get 10 hours of listening and you can repeat a song up till 5 times. Good for a radio function and exploring the app, not much more. You're only able to use it on the desktop and nowhere.

You can pay €4.99 a month and you essentially unlock the Spotify desktop application to unlimited streaming, but still no mobile streaming.

I pay the premium of €9,99 a month and are very happy with it? What do you get for it? You get the whole catalogue (Which unless you have a specific taste is in most cases near complete) at your fingertips.

The 10 euros a month subscription also enables you to sync songs and make them available offline (up to 3000 songs or something like that), so yes, you can take it in your car, on the plane or on vacation. And you can also be out of your home country for a month or so without problems.

For me spotify has drastically cut down my spending on music, and I love it.
Furthermore you can also add your own local music into the playlists and those local files are also synced over WiFi. It just is about 20 times as fast as syncing through ITunes.

It really depends how an intensive and what kind of listener you are. I suggest signing up for it to find out whether spotify is added value, for me it really is .

Employees don't want much

I'm sitting looking at my company's internal 'learning' system this morning - hundreds of online courses that are available to all employees, some of which we're mandated to take. I'm not sure why the rest of them exist. We certainly don't have time to do any of the courses, and for the average employee, they hold no relevance to what we do, or want to do in our day-to-day jobs. I for one just want to be assigned tasks, and then be left alone. I don't need to do hazardous material training - my job doesn't involve hazardous materials. I don't need micromanagement. I don't need all the various efficiency and ethics courses that are available because I have common sense. I don't need to be instructed how to use the email system, nor how 'just in time' manufacturing is good for the company (it has no bearing on our division). Ok I understand all of this is corporate C-Y-A but so many of these things are just inconsequential to us. On
